Cryotherapy before training: What three minutes of cold do to the body

25 September 2026

Three minutes at minus 110 degrees change how the body moves through the following hour. What looks like two separate steps follows a clear physiological logic.

What cold does to the nervous system

Cold at this intensity is a precise stimulus for the nervous system. The body releases noradrenaline. That brings alertness without the jitters of a caffeine hit. The mind clears and focus sharpens. That is exactly what Lagree demands.

Lagree is high-intensity, low-impact training on the Megaformer, built on slow, controlled movements under constant tension. Every second counts and every micro-movement demands attention. Walk in focused and you get more out of every exercise.

Circulation as a head start

Cold contracts the blood vessels. As the body warms up afterwards, they widen again, and blood flows faster into the muscles. For training built on endurance under tension, that is a real advantage. The body reaches working temperature sooner and the muscles respond more directly to the machine.

It happens fast. Ten to fifteen minutes after the cold chamber, circulation is already elevated, right when your Lagree session begins.

Reading the burn instead of backing off

Cold has a numbing effect: it briefly reduces the sensitivity of the nerve endings. That does not mean you feel less. It means you can tell more clearly: productive muscle burn or real discomfort. You get closer to your limit and stay there, rather than pulling back early.

For a training method that deliberately works at the edge of muscular endurance, that distinction matters.

Ready before the load begins

Stress, short sleep and hard training weeks add up. Many people use cryotherapy to bounce back faster. Used before training, it does not replace recovery afterwards, it adds to it.

The sequence at CÉCILE

At CÉCILE, this order is deliberate. Three minutes of cold, a moment to collect yourself, then fifty minutes of focused work on the Megaformer: a sequence that does not shock the body but gets it ready step by step.

The result is a training session that feels different. More present, more controlled, clearer in execution. Not because more is demanded, but because the body is better prepared to give what it can. Strength often begins where the mind arrives first.

Common questions

  • Ideally ten to fifteen minutes before. Circulation and focus are still elevated when training begins.

  • Two to three times a week alongside your Lagree sessions is a good place to start. The effect builds over time.

  • Cryotherapy is not for everyone. With certain cardiovascular conditions or cold sensitivity, check with a doctor first. We're happy to answer your questions before your first booking.

  • No. Even occasional use before training makes a noticeable difference. One combined session a week is a good place to start.
